The Badlands

The Badlands

The Badlands along I-94 east of Glendive, Montana is a fascinating landscape under an early morning light.  It's a country that supports cattle grazing but is probably too rugged for much cultivation.  I don't imagine it will stay this green for long as the summer's heat comes on.

North Dakota!

North Dakota!

Leaving Montana behind and crossing into my fourth state.  I'm excited because I've never visited the great State of North Dakota.

Home on the Range

Home on the Range

This sign had me singing the well known song over and over again for at least an hour.  It's not a town but rather a working ranch for troubled children founded by Fr. Cassedy in 1950 near Sentinel Butte, North Dakota.  It is still a very active place and is operated by the Catholic Church.

The National Grasslands

The National Grasslands

This vast National Grasslands has been preserved in it's natural state and was once the home of vast herds of Buffalo.

The National Grasslands

The National Grasslands

This is the land of Teddy Roosevelt and his cattle ventures in the 1880's.  The fields of grass wave in the wind much like waves on a large body of water.

Saint Mary Catholic Church

Saint Mary Catholic Church

In 1884 this small church was constructed of local brick that captures the beautiful red hue of the surrounding hills.  It's still used for Mass to this day.
